Accurate Box Company took the Innovation Stage at Pack Expo International 2026 in Chicago to share the journey behind double-sided litho-laminated corrugated packaging. Executive Vice President, Samara Ronkowitz, and Senior Director of Manufacturing Systems, Innovation & EHS, Neil Della Valle, walked attendees through nearly a decade of research and development that ultimately led to bringing the capability fully in-house.

Litho Quality Was Always the Goal

For Accurate Box, the challenge was never simply printing on both sides of corrugated. The goal was to achieve the same high-quality graphics on the one side of the box as the other, while maintaining the cost efficiencies needed for high-volume production.

During the presentation, Samara and Neil showed macro photographs of the same artwork printed three ways: digital, flexo and litho. The comparison demonstrates that print quality is about more than how packaging looks. At small sizes, the litho print maintained the sharpness and clarity needed to keep critical information legible, while the other samples became increasingly difficult to read.

For consumers who rely on allergen statements, ingredient lists and other important product information, that clarity can have real safety implications. It reinforces why Accurate Box remained focused on litho: protecting legibility and color accuracy while delivering consistent brand quality.

From R&D to Production

Over the years, Accurate Box explored digital, pre-print and post-print solutions. While each offered a path to two-sided printing, none could match the combination of litho quality, cost and production efficiency the company was looking for.

The breakthrough was rethinking the process itself: rather than trying to add another print method, why not use the lithography it can already produce on both sides?

After years of R&D focused on registration, warp control and converting, Accurate Box achieved the goal: high-quality lithographic graphics on both sides of a corrugated package, produced entirely in-house.

Today, the capability gives brands a new opportunity to use both the inside and outside of their packaging for high-impact graphics, whether telling their brand story, providing helpful instructions, highlighting promotions or sharing additional product information.
